# Autumnal Glory

**My visit to** [**Benmore Botanic Gardens**](https://www.rbge.org.uk/visit/benmore-botanic-garden/?ref=digest.andymarshall.co) **in Argyll and Bute, Scotland felt more like an inoculation against the onset of winter.**

Here on the cusp of a difficult winter are signifiers of hope. The trees rage against the shortening days with every hue and colour.

On this day, with the lightest of breezes, the survivors from abscission - strike a pose.

Their leaves are held like rooks mid-flight, frozen and suspended by invisible forces, framed with the presence of absence.

The next day, on a walk to the Inchree Falls near Fort William, I come across another marvel of nature: the humble fern, spouting from the bank, pigmented in a pattern poised between seasons.

I travelled up to Benmore Botanic Gardens in the trusty old camper van and used Bunree Campsite as a base to explore the area.
