I said to Steve. "Can you see the nail?" he said. "Oh yeah! How beautiful!" ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/2e/b6/2eb6d776-18dd-41f1-a2d1-b76fa2d605be/content/images/2023/09/IMG_2069-1.jpeg) Inside the church the font was in on the act and, as we buzzed around the inside as innumerable people have done before us, the light kept its steady track and graced the ancient font with its presence, pricking out the details. It was as if the font was alive again - like the stone at Billesley. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/2e/b6/2eb6d776-18dd-41f1-a2d1-b76fa2d605be/content/images/2023/09/IMG_2084.jpeg) The listing says that it is a fine C12 barrel font with bishop holding crozier flanked by dragons and scrolls. Viewable on all devices.** [Be there: Dovecote, Avebury in glorious VRIt’s one of my favourite buildings in Avebury.
