## The Eustace

An advocacy toolkit that helps others see why place matters.

Eustace gathers photographs, encounters and ideas that reveal the intangible value of historic places. Use them to deepen a statement of significance, strengthen a local campaign or simply help somebody look again.

**Why Eustace?** 

The name comes from a moment in C. S. Lewis's *The Voyage of the Dawn Treader*, in which Eustace learns that a star is more than the materials that compose it. The same is true of a historic place - its fabric matters, but so do the memories, meanings and relationships gathered around it.

About the Digest

### Continue the journey through the historic environment.

I am an architectural photographer with a background in the historic environment and a postgraduate diploma in Building Conservation. My thesis explored Genius Loci in architecture and was awarded the Harold Samuel Prize.

I’ve worked in the historic environment for more than 30 years, documenting many significant conservation and regeneration projects across the UK.

The Genius Loci Digest draws on that experience, following my travels through the historic environment and exploring architecture, conservation, history and the stories held within places. Many heritage professionals also use the Digest as part of their continuing professional development.
