The eyes are watchful, the ears are listening, the nose is prostrate, and the mouth is open. In our modern age, the equivalent might be Edvard Munch’s The Scream. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/2e/b6/2eb6d776-18dd-41f1-a2d1-b76fa2d605be/content/images/2026/09/Screenshot-2024-07-04-at-11.15.54.png) ## St. Mary's, Deerhurst, Gloucestershire. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/2e/b6/2eb6d776-18dd-41f1-a2d1-b76fa2d605be/content/images/2024/07/Deerhurst-2.jpg) **St. Mary's, Deerhurst sits within a bucolic setting.** Set amongst the Gloucestershire countryside it nestles within a farm complex with origins in the original monastery on this site. This area was the scene of the treaty between Canute and Edmund Ironside in 1016AD. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/2e/b6/2eb6d776-18dd-41f1-a2d1-b76fa2d605be/content/images/2024/07/IMG_4956.JPG) The church has significant Anglo-Saxon remains both outside and inside dating from the C9th onwards.
