By Edwin Smith - copy of my own print

**A photograph of Hereford Cathedral by Edwin Smith is the inspiration behind my chelfies (church selfies).**

His photograph is more than just an image of the cathedral - it captures the state of his mind during a serious illness. Through the use of perspective and his dodging and burning, he reveals and conceals parts of the photograph to emphasise the silhouette of an angel.

The lines of perspective are all leading the eye to the angel. It's a wonderful example of how an image can express the mind of the observer and communicate a state of mind.

He speaks to us both through the building and the photograph.

Seeking out the angel and standing in front of it, knowing about the image - you can sense his presence. It's a beautiful and rare perspective of the cathedral and an insight into the mind of an artist.
