# ✨ Treasure Hoard: The Tournai marble font at Winchester Cathedral

**Carved in Tournai around 1150–1200 from dense, dark limestone traditionally called marble, Winchester Cathedral’s monumental font is among England’s finest Romanesque survivals.** 

Henry III was baptised here in 1207, and the font remains in use today.

On the side, etched into the Tournai marble is a depiction of a building that looks much like the transepts in the photo below.

The C12th font is a marvel - and depicts scenes from the life of St. Nicholas.
