Andy Marshall’s Genius Loci Digest. Every Friday.

Find the light
as the days draw in.

As the nights lengthen, I seek out the last pockets of light - a glowing window, the blue of twilight, the first stars above the rooftops. Each Friday, I share photographs, art and stories to help us find wonder in the changing seasons, feel more grounded and carry a little perspective into our own lives.

Inside the Friday Digest

A season for
seeing differently.

Over many years, certain places have helped me feel more grounded, find perspective and rediscover joy in difficult times. I’ve come to understand them as places that hold generations of human experience - with something still to offer our lives today.

Through the Digest, I share these places and the ways of looking that have helped me connect with them, so you can make discoveries of your own. No expertise needed - just a little curiosity.

  • The last pockets of light

Twilight streets, glowing windows and the first stars. Photographs and ways of seeing that invite us to slow down and notice what the shorter days reveal.

  • Warmth in the human story

A house sheltered by trees. Evensong heard through cathedral walls. Places that hold generations of experience, offering connection, continuity and a sense of belonging.

  • Wonder to carry with you

The colours of autumn, light across snow, a familiar place transformed. Small discoveries to return to when life feels unsettled - a counter-measure to disenchantment.

Hello, I’m Andy

A different way forward.

In the late 1990s, a breakdown led me towards a new vocation in photography. Learning to look more closely changed the direction of my life. It has taken years of returning to places, exploring their stories and spending time in the landscape to understand what those encounters can offer.

On trips around Britain in Woody, my camper van, I gather photographs, stories and sketches. Through the Digest, I hope to pass on something of what these places have given me - ways of seeing and finding connection that you can make your own, return to and, perhaps, share with others.

“I love how you notice the details - we can all learn from that.”
