Andy Marshall’s Genius Loci Digest. Every Friday.

Some places have
more to tell.

A door where no door remains. A ghost gable traced against a wall. Some places draw us into stories larger than our own. Each Friday, I share photographs, art and ways of seeing that help us feel more connected, find perspective and rediscover a little wonder.

Inside the Friday Digest

Listen to what
a place can hold.

Over many years, certain places have helped me feel more grounded, find perspective and rediscover joy in difficult times. I’ve come to understand them as places that hold generations of human experience - with something still to offer our lives today.

Through the Digest, I share these places and the ways of looking that have helped me connect with them, so you can make discoveries of your own. No expertise needed - just a little curiosity.

  • Beyond the familiar

Photographs, sketches and field notes from hidden gems, winding lanes and unexpected doorways - places that draw you in and reward a closer look.

  • The whispers behind the walls

A vanished doorway, a worn step, the outline of a lost gable. Traces of ordinary lives that offer a sense of continuity, and a more rooted place in the human story.

  • Reasons for hope

Encounters with beauty, care and human ingenuity - a counter-measure to disenchantment, found in the world around us.

Hello, I’m Andy

A different way forward.

In the late 1990s, a breakdown led me towards a new vocation in photography. Learning to look more closely changed the direction of my life. It has taken years of returning to places, exploring their stories and spending time in the landscape to understand what those encounters can offer.

On trips around Britain in Woody, my camper van, I gather photographs, stories and sketches. Through the Digest, I hope to pass on something of what these places have given me - ways of seeing and finding connection that you can make your own, return to and, perhaps, share with others.

“a delicious respite in these uncertain times”

“I love how you notice the details - we can all learn from that.”

Let a little wonder
find its way in.
