In Pursuit of Spring - A Series of Special Edition Digests

I am thrilled to share the beginnings of a major new project. This year, I’ll be travelling upon my camper-van-camino the full length of Britain, from the Highlands of Scotland to the far reaches of Cornwall in February.

I'm hoping this project will bring forward the joy and pleasure of spring and combat the darker days.

On the surface, this is a journey following the returning light — the gradual unfurling of the season as it moves through the land. But it is also something more. In a complex and often disorientating world, it feels important to look not only for illumination, but for understanding — for moments of clarity, renewal, and hope that are embedded in place.

It will be a journey into light and renewal, and I cannot wait to bring you with me in a series of special edition Genius Loci Digests.

Inspired by Edward Thomas’s celebrated book of the same name, I’ll be tracing the season’s unfolding through some of our most ancient and sacred landscapes, alongside many of my most cherished buildings. These are places shaped by centuries of human attention — where themes of renaissance, re-birth, and emergence are written into stone, craft and continuity.

This journey is personal too. To travel slowly and attentively is to enter a kind of living labyrinth — not something to be solved, but something to be walked. Through motion, rhythm, and repetition, I hope space will open for reflection, helping me to meet the challenges of the year with a little more steadiness and clarity.

I'll be responding to my journey through my photography, art and words and sharing it with Digest subscribers.

What really matters here is the act of moving toward something — light, renewal, coherence — even when the destination remains undefined.

In following spring across Britain, I’m seeking not only beauty, but enlightenment: one shaped by patience, humility, and contact with places that have steadied people for generations. Our heritage, landscapes and buildings are repositories of this slow wisdom — places where uncertainty has been held, endured, and transformed.
