Loch an Eilein is a wonderful place to visit in any season - though it’s worth checking accessibility during the winter months - conditions can change quickly.

At the heart of the loch sits the ruined island castle - its origins reaching back to the late 13th century. It later came into the hands of Clan Grant, serving at times as a place of refuge - retreat as much as defence. What remains is fragmentary - but enough to foster a sense of the place and its isolation.
