When I get up close to some of the mills, I might as well be standing within the bounds of Fountains or Rievaulx - buildings that were themselves cogs in their own industrious machines devoted to wool.
What I didn’t anticipate was how much Rawtenstall would give back. Through my sketches, I’ve made new friends and met remarkable people with stories that have enriched my understanding of the town and, in turn, myself.
Theres something about walking from darkness into a foggy twilight; moving along as the surfaces start to luminesce, and the light begins to emboss and shape the world.
