St.Oswald's Well, Kirkoswald, Cumbria

The C12th church is built over a spring which runs under the nave and emanates in a well at the west end of the building.

It is a rare sight indeed to see a well that has a dipping cup on a chain.

Oswald was a C7th Northumbrian King. There are Saxon artefacts on the site including a grave slab and a cross arm dating to the late Saxon period.
