Bring the valley home.
Keep a little of that light.

The river leads the eye through a landscape of trees, stone and open fields. From across a room, a sweep of green; up close, paths and details to wander through again.

In my words.

I cycled to Bolton Abbey on the best of days for the light. Pulling up beside the road, I glimpsed the abbey through a thicket.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything so beautiful in all my travels. For a moment, it was all there: the abbey lit up and cradled within the valley, an idyllic scene.

It reminded me of Wordsworth’s words:

And in the shattered fabric’s heart
Remaineth one protected part;
A rural Chapel, neatly drest,
In covert like a little nest;

William Wordsworth, The White Doe of Rylstone (1815).

There’s a little of how I see the world in every photograph and artwork here. I’d love you to find one that feels at home with you.
