An Architectural Colour Study

Red.Digital Print

Red is never just red.

Sixty-four encounters with one remarkable colour, held in brick, terracotta, timber, pigment, stone, metal and glass.

Drawn from my extensive photographic archive, built over many years of exploring and documenting Britain's historic buildings and places, each image has been carefully selected and brought together to create an artwork that celebrates the glorious diversity of colour, craft and place.

In my words.

Red has a habit of catching my eye: a terracotta façade, a scarlet door, a single brick bearing the marks of time.

These sixty-four photographs come from decades of exploring Britain's historic places. Gathered from my archive, they bring together fragments separated by geography, purpose and time.

Placed alongside one another, these details reveal new relationships between colour, texture and craft. Stand back and they become a patchwork of different places brought together in this unique view.

Red, but never quite the same red twice.

There’s a little of how I see the world in every photograph and artwork here. I’d love you to find one that feels at home with you.
