The floor at Bury Parish Church is mesmerising. It was laid as part of J. S. Crowther's rebuilding of the church in 1876. It's a wonderful example of how a floor surface can be so impactful on the senses.

Its design appears to echo the extraordinary medieval Cosmati pavement at Westminster Abbey - itself a vision of the universe expressed through geometry.
